Outreach is an important part of Sonrise’s vision to “Encourage the Community.” Believing that the Church exists in part to meet physical needs as well as spiritual, we commit to partnerships with local ministries and nonprofit organizations in their outreach efforts. We are also committed to social justice, desiring to see God's redemptive compassion infiltrate every sphere of our community.
Our church meets every Sunday in the Boys and Girls Club of Venice, where Pastor Darrin’s offices are also located. This gives us a number of opportunities to interact with the staff and children in the club. Our activities include volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club of Venice Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for its youth and families, and hosting club cleanup days.
We also partner with Harvest Home, a special home for single, pregnant and impoverished women in Venice. On the first Saturday in December, we organize the Harvest Home Trim-a-Tree Party, where we gather with the residents to decorate the home for Christmas and share a fellowship lunch. On Mother’s Day, we provide special gifts for each mom, such as manicures and pedicures or body pillows. Sonrise also supports Harvest Home through a monthly donation.
Every November, Sonrise volunteers organize a Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child campaign to collect shoe boxes filled with toys, clothes and supplies for children in third world countries. Children and adults alike benefit from participation in this outstanding project.
Love Lifted Me organizes an evangelism outreach to the Venice Boardwalk on the first Saturday of every month. Volunteers hand out sandwiches and tracts to the homeless and needy, and share their faith with them. It’s a rewarding experience! In February, Sonrise hosts Heart for the Homeless, a campaign to collect supplies for the homeless that will be distrubed by Love Lifted Me.
Sonrise supports the nonprofit Venice Bible Project, with the goal of distributing a Bible to every home in Venice.
Life Connections International periodically offers our congregation opportunities to participate in short-term missions trips around the world.
Sonrise also “tithes” from its offerings to Harvest Home and Stand to Reason. Additionally, the church makes monthly donations to local ministries and organizations, and distributes a benevolence fund and grocery gift cards to the needy.
